In Mpumalanga, a 52-YEAR-OLD man was detained on suspicion of engaging in human trafficking. On Monday, February 27, 19 men were allegedly discovered locked up in a home in Kamagugu, a town outside of Mbombela.
Officers allegedly found 19 males in a three-bedroom house, according to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a spokeswoman for the police.
They also discovered that their telephones were in a plastic bag, proving that they were unable to contact their loved ones or friends, according to Mohlala.
The suspect, a housekeeper, was detained for human trafficking, according to Mohlala, and is scheduled to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrates Court shortly.
"Immigration law violations will be brought against the 19 guys discovered within the home. We're still looking for their target and the kingpins in this case.
However, preliminary investigations suggests that some of them were headed to Middleburg and others to Johannesburg," he said.
