Kiernan “AKA” Jarryd Forbes to be remembered at public memorial service

Kiernan "AKA" Jarryd Forbes, a multi-award-winning rapper and music producer, was brutally slain on Friday evening in Durban outside Wish restaurant.

AKA's family released a statement to the media confirming his passing; Tony Forbes, AKA's father, is scheduled to speak to the media later today.

The family of the well-known rapper revealed in a statement to the media that the memorial service will be broadcast online and available to the public.

"We want to commemorate Kiernan's life with everyone he affected and touched through his gift of music. Therefore, his memorial service will be broadcast online and available to the public, according to the statement. The family also disclosed that AKA would be buried on Saturday, February 18, 2023, in a private provincial funeral.

The family of AKA also expressed gratitude to the public for its support. The Forbes family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received recently.

"As we've seen from loved ones, friends, professional colleagues, media tributes, and the MEGACY," the family said, "Kiernan wasn't just adored by us as a family, but by the nation."

The Mohosanas, the family's extended relatives, were also praised for their assistance. DJ Zinhle's (Ntombezinhle Jiyane) marital family is the Mohosanas family. She and the late artist's daughter were together.

As Bongani Mahosana will be absent from the memorial and funeral owing to observing cultural etiquette, we'd also like to thank our extended family, the Mohosanas, for their unflinching support during this time.

AKA was killed alongside Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane, a renowned novelist, chef, and entertainment entrepreneur.

At a special farewell ceremony held at Sacred Heart College in Observatory, Johannesburg, on February 16, 2023, the Motsoane family also made that announcement.

Over the weekend, a private service will be held for his funeral.
