A sinkhole engulfed a portion of a school in Gauteng.

Part of Relebogile High School in Khutsong, on the West Rand, has been engulfed by a huge sinkhole.
The DA published startling images of the incident on Thursday. The bathrooms at the school were reportedly part of the submerged area.

Khume Ramulifho, the shadow MEC for education for the DA, has requested that the Gauteng education department send engineers to the school to determine whether it is safe for staff and students to remain there.

According to Ramulifho, this examination should guarantee that safety precautions are performed.

"Should it be determined that using the school, or portions of the school, is unsafe, the department must quickly see to it that students and teachers are transferred to a safe location where learning and teaching can continue uninterrupted for the foreseeable future,"

When it rains a lot, Khutsong is infamous for its sinkholes. Ramulifho advised immediate action to stop any unanticipated risks brought on by the sinkholes.

"The DA will follow up on this matter with the department. Every one of our students deserves to learn in a secure setting that supports both teaching and learning.

The infrastructure unit had been sent to the school, according to the Gauteng Department of Education.

Steve Mabona, a spokesperson, stated that in the interim, locations like churches and community centers are being identified for students to be placed in so that learning may continue. Merafong and Westonaria are dolomitic regions, it should be emphasized, Mabona stated.
