Having consumed R4500 in "bail money," a corrupt investigator from Limpopo receives a further six years in prison.
Corruption convicted Limpopo detective
Thabo Maputla, a former investigator with the Limpopo police, was previously given a six-year prison sentence for corruption and has now been given a second, unrelated six-year sentence for corruption.
Four suspects who he claimed were paying bail money paid Maputla a total of R4500, but he kept the money for himself.
Captain Matimba Maluleke, a spokesperson for Limpopo, reported that Maputla had received a sentence for the second case in the Polokwane Specialized Commercial Crimes Court.
"On August 25, 2014, Maputla, a detective warrant officer at SAPS Westerburg, brought four suspects to the police station and let them know he was looking into an assault case involving them that had the potential to cause serious bodily harm.“When the suspects arrived at Westernburg police station, Maputla told them they were under arrest, but they can pay R500 each for bail,” Maluleke narrated.
