Zuma's armls deal corruption trial hits a stack, once again
More twists and turns in former statesman Jacob Zuma’s arms deal corruption case.
Tuesday’s hearing of his latest bid to remove State advocate Billy Downer from the prosecution, has been called off.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court was set to hear arguments in a new application Zuma’s now brought aimed at getting Downer kicked off the case.
This after the special plea he previously raised challenging Downer’s to prosecute - which was, too, aimed at his removal - was dismissed.
The Office of the Chief Justice on Monday afternoon issued a statement saying the hearing won’t be going ahead as planned.
But there is no clarity on why the decision was made.
Furthermore, the Office of the Chief Justice added that KwaZulu-Natal Judge President Thoba Poyo-Dlwati will instead be conducting “a virtual case management meeting with all parties involved”.
What will be discussed at that virtual case management meeting is not known though - and the office also confirmed that it will be held “in chambers” and that members of the media will not be able to attend.
The Jacob Zuma Foundation in a statement also confirmed that no reason was provided for the move to call off the hearing.
